CONNECTING JUMP LEADS [G1842345]

WARNING:

Remove all metal jewellery before working on, or near, the battery or jump start terminals. Never allow metal objects or vehicle components to come into contact with the battery or jump start terminals. Metal objects can cause sparks or short circuits, potentially resulting in an explosion.

WARNING:

Do not allow the battery posts or terminals to come into contact with skin. Battery posts and terminals contain lead and lead compounds, which are toxic. Always wash hands thoroughly after handling the battery.

WARNING:

Do not expose any battery to an open flame or spark, as the battery produces explosive, flammable gas. Explosive, flammable gases may cause serious injuries or death.

WARNING:

Never jump start, charge, or try to start a vehicle with a frozen battery. Doing so can result in an explosion.

WARNING:

Rotating parts of the engine can cause serious injury. Take extreme care when working near rotating parts of the engine.

WARNING:

Before attempting to start the vehicle, make sure that the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is applied, or suitably chock the wheels. Make sure that Park (P) is selected. Failure to do so may result in accidents, potentially causing serious injury or death.

WARNING:

Always wear appropriate eye protection when working in the area of a battery. Battery acid can cause serious injury to eyes.

WARNING:

During normal use, batteries emit explosive gases sufficient to cause severe explosions and capable of causing serious injury. Keep sparks and open flames away from the battery.

WARNING:

Do not connect the jump leads directly to any battery terminal on the vehicle. Doing so may cause a spark, which can result in an explosion. The charging system may also be damaged.

WARNING:

Do not disconnect a discharged battery, as it may lead to an electrical shock. Electrical shocks may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING:

Make sure that any battery or starting aid is a 12V device. Also check that the jump leads have insulated clamps and are approved for use with 12V batteries. Failure to do so may lead to an electrical shock.

WARNING:

Make sure there is no physical contact between the donor and disabled vehicles, other than the jump leads. The bodywork of the vehicles may conduct electricity, which may lead to an electrical shock.

CAUTION:

Disconnect the jump leads before operating any electrical equipment. Failure to do so may cause damage to the electrical equipment.

CAUTION:

Make sure the jump leads being used are of high quality, in good condition and are rated to the engine capacity of both vehicles. Incorrectly rated jump leads may not supply sufficient power to the disabled vehicle's battery and may overheat when attempting to start the vehicle.

NOTE:

Before connecting the jump leads to the disabled vehicle's jump start points, make sure the donor vehicle's jump start point connections are correct. Also make sure that all electrical equipment has been switched off.

Open the bonnet and locate the engine compartment fuse box. See 保险丝盒位置.

  1. Release the jump start point lid.
  2. Release the jump start point cover and set aside.

The following procedure should be used to connect and disconnect the jump leads:

  1. Connect one end of the positive (red) jump lead to the positive jump start point on the donor vehicle.
    NOTE:

Refer to the donor vehicle's Owner's Handbook for the recommended jump start point location.

  2. Connect the other end of the positive (red) jump lead to the positive jump start point on the disabled vehicle.
  3. Connect one end of the negative (black) jump lead to the negative jump start point on the donor vehicle.
    NOTE:

Refer to the donor vehicle's Owner's Handbook for the recommended jump start point location.

  4. Connect the other end of the negative (black) jump lead to the negative jump start point on the disabled vehicle.
    NOTE:

Check that all cables are clear of any moving components and that all four connections are secure.

  5. Start the engine of the donor vehicle. Allow it to idle for a few minutes.
  6. Start the engine of the disabled vehicle.
    NOTE:

Do not switch on any electrical circuits on the previously disabled vehicle until after the jump leads have been removed.

  7. Allow both vehicles to idle for a few minutes.
  8. Switch off the donor vehicle.
  9. Disconnect the negative (black) jump lead from the disabled vehicle.
  10. Disconnect the negative (black) jump lead from the donor vehicle.
  11. Disconnect the positive (red) jump lead from the disabled vehicle.
  12. Disconnect the positive (red) jump lead from the donor vehicle.

Refit the access covers to the positive jump start point. Close the bonnet.
