CLEANING THE DEPLOYABLE SIDE STEPS [G4193673]

Make sure the deployable side steps are cleaned after the vehicle is used in off-road conditions or after travelling on heavily soiled roads.

NOTE:

The deployable side steps should be cleaned every year as part of general maintenance, every six months in markets containing high concentrations of environmental sand or dust.

CAUTION:

When cleaning the deployable side steps, make sure extra care, consideration and attention is given to the areas containing electrical components. High pressure streams of water or air must be aimed away from the motors, connectors and harnesses. Failure to do so may cause damage or complete failure to the electrical components.

CAUTION:

Make sure the pressure water nozzle is always at a distance of at least 500 mm from the surface to avoid damage.

CAUTION:

Do not use chemical agents, solvents or domestic cleaning products when cleaning the deployable side steps. Failure to follow these guidelines may cause damage to the components or even lead to complete failure.

Observe the following points when cleaning the deployable side steps:

The deployable side steps should be cleaned in a stowed position first. Once debris build up is removed, deploy the side steps and continue with the cleaning process.
Pressure jet washing equipment can be used, with a maximum pressure of 150 bar (15 MPa or 2200 psi). The washer nozzle should deliver a flat spray pattern.
Do not use chemical agents, solvents or domestic cleaners.
The tip of the nozzle must be at least 500 mm from the component surface at all times.
In areas with mud packing, spray the jet in the packed area until the mud has been removed. Avoid keeping the jet stationary in the same place for longer than 5 seconds.
Particular attention should be paid to the pivot points of the steps.
